Porchlight VNA/Home Care (Porchlight) serves the City of Chicopee with its falls prevention program, Move In Time, with the support of a grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG). The grant in the amount of $4000 was awarded to engage seniors living in the city in becoming more active.
Move In Time was co-created by Porchlight’s Certified Occupational Therapist and Director of Rehabilitation Services, Lynn Proulx. Proulx leads the six-week course once a week with the same group of seniors participating throughout the entire series. Cumulative learning and activities achieve skills in balance, risk-assessment, and strengthening to prevent falls. Of note, falls have become an increasingly deadly issue for the United States’ aging population and also greatly affect those in the Berkshires. Move In Time will eliminate risk factors for falls and empower seniors to remain independent and lead fulfilling lives.
The hour-long sessions will be held from May 16-June 27 at 1pm at Chicopee Council on Aging. All materials are provided for the course . The course will be available with bilingual services in Spanish. To confirm attendance or for more information, please call Lynn Proulx at (413)243-1212 x 233.
